About SIG-Metaverse (Metaverse)

The Services Sector has account for 79.5% of the GDP of United States in 2016. The world's most services-oriented economy, with services sectors accounting for more than 90% of GDP. The goal of S2 is to foster Building the Modern Services Industry through Services Computing technologies and business innovations.

This scope of Services Computing covers the whole lifecycle of services innovation research that includes business componentization, services modeling, services creation, services realization, services annotation, services deployment, services discovery, services composition, services delivery, service-to-service collaboration, services monitoring, services optimization, as well as services management.

The enabling technology suite includes Web services, service-oriented architecture (SOA), cloud computing, artificial intelligence, cognitive computing, big data, internet of things, edge computing, blockchain, mobile internet, metaverse, business consulting methodology and utilities, business process modeling, transformation and integration.

To rapidly respond to the changing economy, the Technical Activities board at the Services Society (https://ServicesSociety.org/) has created a set of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) as a platform for innovating the services technologies and applications.

The Special Interest Group on Metaverse (SIG-Metaverse) promotes creative thinking, long-term visions, and innovative methodologies to respond to the emerging Metaverse and Blockchain technologies and applications. The supporting conference is the International Conference on Blockchain (ICBC, blockchain1000.org) and the International Conference on Metaverse (METAVERSE).

From the invention of blockchain (BC) concepts in 2008, with the development of distributed data storage, point-to-point transmission, consensus mechanism, encryption algorithm and so on, the blockchain technology has been paid more and more attentions by all countries. At present, the application of blockchain has been extended from the financial field to the Internet of Things, intelligent manufacturing, supply chain management, and many other fields. The blockchain is creating a new technological innovation and industrial change on a global scale.

According to [1], year 2021 is the first year of the opening of the metaverse. More and more large companies are supporting the development of this technology and application behind it, making the term metaverse flourish. Metaverse’s core has two features. The first is that you can build a virtual digital world. In the virtual digital world, you can build any objects, services, desired processes, etc., and the interaction between them. This is the construction level of the virtual world and the core part of the metaverse. The second part is to establish a connection with the physical world. In the process of constructing these two core contents, the well-known Internet technologies, AR, VR, and MR technologies, which are technologies for augmented reality and virtual reality, can all be used. If you want to build a lot of metaverses and allow one person to move in multiple metaverses at the same time, there may be more artificial intelligence robots in the future, so that artificial intelligence technology will also be used in this kind of virtual reality. In the construction of the avatar image in the world, a person can appear in multiple metaverses at the same time.

The Special Interest Group on Metaverse (SIG-Metaverse) covers all topics related to Metaverse and Blockchain related technologies and platform, as well as blockchain solutions and business models.

From solution perspective, we need to build Metaverse solutions in a systematic way. For Metaverse solutioning perspective, SIG-Metaverse covers but not limited to the following topics.
