Services Society Community Membership Program

The Services Society (S2) is a non-profit professional organization that has been created to promote worldwide research and technical collaboration in services innovations among academia and industrial professionals. Its community members are professionals from industry and academia with common interests. S2 is registered in the USA as a "501(c) organization", which means that it is an American tax-exempt nonprofit organization. S2 collaborates with other professional organizations to sponsor or co-sponsor conferences and to promote an effective services curriculum in colleges and universities. S2 initiates and promotes a "Services University" program worldwide to bridge the gap between industrial needs and university instruction. The Services Society has formed 10 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to support technology and domain specific professional activities (Membership Registration for S2).

The Services Society (S2) Community is a unique platform for promoting worldwide research and technical collaboration in services innovations among academia and industrial professionals. Its members are professionals from industry and academia with common interests.

S2 has attracted more than 30,000 community users to participate S2 sponsored conferences, Services University, and other technical activities started from 2003. Started from 2018, S2 launched its Community Membership system to support Student Member and Professional Member. The recognized member grades (as well as awards grades) include Senior Member, Distinguished Member, Fellow, and Member of National Academy of Services (NASV). These awards are applied or nominated by Services Society community members and reviewed by Services Society Awards Committee.

Community Membership Types

Student Member:

Any full-time students with 18 years old and showing interests in services innovations can apply for Student Member of Services Society online community. All Student Members are encouraged to select one or more special interest groups (SIGs) to network with other peers in common research interests.

Member:

Any professionals with 18 years old and working in the field of services innovations can apply for community membership as long as the candidate has at least a Bachelor degree or 4 years working experience after high school. All Members are encouraged to select one or more special interest groups (SIGs) to network with other peers in common research interests.

Services Society Awards for Recognized Community Member Grades

The following community membership grades can be only granted in accordance to nomination rules. A candidate’s professional experience is calculated based on his/her highest completed college degree, which counts toward that time as follows: 5 years for a doctorate, 4 for masters, 3 for baccalaureate, or 2 for associate degree.

Senior Member:

The Senior Members Grade recognizes those Services Society community members with at least 10 years of professional experience and 5 years of continuous Professional Membership who have demonstrated performance through technical leadership, and technical or professional contributions. The candidates must have participation history of two consecutive Services Conference Federation (SCF) or three times SCFs within the latest 5 years.

The Committee gives particular weight to the supporting evidence provided by Services Computing Token earned by the candidate.

Distinguished Member:

The Distinguished Members Grade recognizes those Services Society community members with at least 15 years of professional experience and 5 years of continuous Professional Membership who have achieved significant accomplishments or have made a significant impact on the services innovation field enabled by computing and management. The candidates must have participation history of two consecutive SCFs or three times SCFs within the last 5 years.

The Committee gives particular weight to the supporting evidence provided by Services Computing Token earned by the candidate.

Fellow:

Services Society's prestigious member grade recognizes the top 1% of Services Society community members for their outstanding accomplishments in computing and information technology and/or outstanding service to Services Society and the larger services innovation community. Candidates for Fellow must have 5 years of continuous Professional Membership and participation history of two consecutive SCFs or three times SCFs within the last 5 years.

The Committee gives particular weight to the supporting evidence provided by Services Computing Token earned by the candidate.

NASV Member:

Election to National Academy of Services (NASV) membership is the highest professional honors of a research scholar, engineer, scientist, and practitioner in the field of services innovations that include science, technology, engineering, business, and management of services industry. Members have distinguished themselves in business and academic management, in technical positions, as university faculty, and as leaders in government and private engineering organizations. Members are elected to NASV membership by their peers (current NASV members). The NASV Members Grade recognizes those Services Society community members with at least 25 years of professional experience and 5 years of continuous Professional Membership and participation history of two consecutive SCFs (Main Conference, Satellite Session, and Services Society Co-Sponsored Conferences) or three times SCFs within the last 5 years.

Services Society
Services Token Framework (STF)

Services are defined as a set of interactions between providers and consumers to achieve certain business goals or to provide solutions. Services Token is defined as a rewarding mechanism to encourage interactions among service providers and consumers, to promote value added services to the community and the society as a whole. The Services Token Framework (STF) is created by the Services Society to promote value-added interactions for volunteers, authors, conference participants, and other members.

Role-Activity-Token (RAT) is proposed as a realization of STF in the context of professional community building.

Roles

Volunteers:

Services Society Volunteers include all the members of the S2 Board, Executive Office, SIG Committee, and conference organizing committee, such as General Chair, Program Chair, Track Chair, Session Chair, Program Committee (PC) Member and Coordinators from the operations committee.

Authors

Services Society Authors include all the authors and co-authors of submitted papers to the Services Conference Federation (SCF) conferences and other Services Society sponsored conferences, workshops and journals.

Participants

Services Society Participants include all the event participants of conferences, workshops and satellite sessions. They include authors and non-authors for attending Services Society’s events.

Speakers

Services Society Speakers include all the Keynote speakers, Keynote Panel speakers, Tutorial speakers and paper presenters.

Members

S2 provides membership for qualified professionals. All members are required to register in the membership portal and select student member or member to proceed. Once membership application form is reviewed and approved, a unique membership ID number will be assigned to an S2 Member. All S2 members are encouraged to conduct professional activities as a volunteer, author, conference participant or speaker.

Activities

S2’s major professional activities include conferences, SIGs, publications and satellite sessions. S2 Members can be active in any field of services innovation. They can propose new activities to form new SIGs or join existing ones. All the activities within the community are aimed at promoting worldwide research and technical collaboration in Services Computing among academia and industrial professionals.

As a non-profit professional organization registered in the USA, Services Society (S2) has sponsored a list of international conferences, such as the Services Conference Federation (SCF) 2020 which includes the following 10 collocated service-oriented sister conferences:

S2 provides technical sponsorship to the following journals:

Token Benefits

Membership Grade Promotion

The Services Society Awards Committee gives particular weight to the supporting evidence provided by services token earned by the candidates. Under equal conditions, the Committee will give priority to the candidates owning more services tokens. Membership grades determine which rewards and benefits the members can obtain. Membership candidate grades are awarded annually based on the number of services tokens they own. The Membership candidates can claim from which year they attended the S2-sponsored activities or submitted papers to the SCF conferences. The continuous on-site participation started from July 1, 2017. Detailed information can be seen at the Membership Grade Promotion Policy.

Digital Currency Distribution

S2 accepts donation of digital currency of publicly traded. The details will be published later.
